Laughter is What We Need Right Now
God, I love a good joke! A good prank, a funny meme.
I love to laugh, and I love to make people laugh. I love to hear laughter.
It just feels good.
Even when you’re down in the dumps, if someone comes along and makes you smile, doesn’t it just lift a load off you? Even if only temporarily?
I remember my dad sauntering up to my mom, smiling his boyish grin saying coyly, “Don’t you smile, Kay. Don’t smile. Don’t you smile, Katydid?”
This was his strategy when in the doghouse for some minor irritation he had caused my mom.
She would respond with a stern face, arms crossed over her abdomen, determined not to laugh.
“Don’t you smile, Katydid. Is that a smile? Oh, I think I see s smile.”
And on he would go until her unwilling face begrudgingly smiled, and she whacked at him to go away.
Laughter is an elixir for the soul!
“A day without laughter is a day wasted,” according to Charlie Chaplin.
I couldn’t agree more!
And you know what’s super cool? It’s contagious!
Just think about a time someone else was laughing. Maybe you had no idea what was so funny. But after watching this person crack up and let go and indulge in pure hilarity, you couldn’t help it.
You know what I mean. You start to smile, and then it turns into a chuckle. Then you start to laugh a little. Then a lot.
And you don’t know why. Or maybe you do, and that’s even better.
Next thing ya know, ya’all are falling completely apart, tears flowing, sides and cheeks hurting, a complete mess of smiling red wet faces.
Are you smiling? I hope so.
I like to surround myself with funny people who also like to laugh and not take life too seriously.
Here’s to all your wrinkles being in the right places!!
Have you laughed today?
